Patti has been a working artist for over 20 years. She studied
art at the college level, receiving an art minor early in her
career from Eastern Michigan University, and an art major
from Siena Heights University (Michigan) in 1990. Although
she has worked in many media including ceramics, printing,
and photography, her natural bent has always been drawing
and most particularly painting. For years she worked in
watercolor, but in the past eight years has worked in oils.
As award winning artist, Patti’s work has appeared in galleries
and shows across the country. People own her art from
California to the Chicago, IL area to Florida the East Coast.
Her subject matter ranges from the figurative to landscape,
from still life to abstract. Her work is characterized by bold
color, and, in the case of oils, noticeable texture. She is a
member of the Brighton Art Guild and the Ann Arbor Women
Artists, both groups being located in Michigan.
Patti has recently moved to her lake place in the Irish Hills from Brighton, Michigan. There she has set up her studio
in this beautiful and inspiring rural area and begun creating on a regular basis just as she has all her life.
In addition to the creative life, her interests include reading, walking, and yoga. There are two loves in her life—her
art, and her beautiful family which now numbers eleven persons in all. The joy she feels in her life is what she
endeavors to translate into her art.
Drawing and painting have been a part of who I am since I could hold a pencil
or crayon as a tot. Art is my inner and outer world. I think in colors, and I
even drive based on visual cues. There is really no subject off limits to me
from landscape to figure drawing, from still lifes to the abstract.
The core of my work is simplicity of subject matter, and a painterly approach;
that is to say I prefer the art to not just replicate of photo, but to look hand
crafted and to be truly one of a kind and not a print. This means my art is
never reproduced, and is always a singular work of art. Those who own my
work, own something that no one else can own.
The ultimate meaning of my art is complete only when the viewer or the owner
of it brings his/her own reaction to the work beyond whatever conscious or
unconscious meaning I have put into it.
